well i haven't had a chance to really drive this around yet but got me thinking... my mf1547 has an hst tranny and my old mf30b was kinda hst-ish(put it in gear you want to use and the foward/reverse pedal raised the speed and direction).soooo this is the first gear trans ive driven or owned. can i shift the d17 like a car or do you stop between each shift? figgered id ask before i possibly grind all the teeth off! oh i think i got the power director figured out but think i need to adjust it there is really no neutral in it thanks again, jon

the D17 has no mesh system. you do need to have the tractor to a full stop to change gears.
It's a good solid tractor and less to go wrong with the trasmission.

The D17 shouldnt be shifted on the go, lots easier on the gears. The PD normally creeps in the neutral position until the trans warms up. Just my experience. Enjoy your tractor.

Stop the tractor and shift, don't try and shift it like a car. Some people can, but I wouldn't recommend trying it if you don't know what you are doing. Can be a very expensive learning experience.

so i cant wait to either make a 3point hitch or finish fabbing transport wheels for my disk. i made a drawbar to 3pt adapter that worked quite well, 8 foot disc with 20 inch discs pulled it down to the bearings in 4th gear and didnt really seem to know it was back there.

I've never done this myself but read enough on here to know that there is only one right way to move shims around. However, if someone else has already messed up the correct amount of shims in the right places, you can do it by the book all day long and still not end up correct.
