D10 Oil Leak

Why is oil dripping from the bottom of the transmission
housing through a 1" hole in the torsion bar support assembly on my D10
with traction booster.  This is slightly
aft of the transmission drain plug and well forward of the PTO drain.  Scraping the new orange pain off the bottom
of the transmission housing in this hole revealed a spongy, green surface with
a small hole in it.  What is this and how
do I fix it?

There is an aluminum cap at the end of a transmission shaft that has three bolts and a gasket. That gasket is the probable cause. Have to split at the torque tube to get at it.

Larry, Is that supposed to be a drain for the torque tube?  The hole in the support assembly is threaded, is there supposed to be something in it? I can't see up in the hole in the torque tube to see if it, too, is threaded.

Bob - There should not be anything in the torque tube to drain. There is a hole under the clutch too that would drain any oil leaks. That threaded hole may be for a couple different 3 point hitch set ups. Early and late 3 pts were different and then the traction booster set up was a little different also. Draw bar set up was changed over time also and it could just be an attachment point for some piece of equipment.  I think the D 10 is also designed to take the snap coupler even tho it may come with a 3 pt.

 I'll have to look at mine, but this is the area that should have 3 bolts in it to hold on the 3 point hitch package.  Looks like your green stuff might be a busted off bolt, covered with green silicone.  Something still looks amiss, though, Cause I remember the 3 bolts that hold the 3 point on, as having a longer spread, than the picture, above.  Also the weld concerns me, like someone tried to weld the bolt on to keep it from turning.  I'll try to get a look, at the D10 III that I have, just to scratch an itch!

Dave, There was welding on this assembly.  The bolts weren't welded when I got it, but one of these two bolts was missing and the front edge of the assembly had been welded to the torque tube.  I had to grind off the weld to remove the assembly.  This is just one of several field modifications that had been done to this tractor earlier in it's life.

DiyDave was on target. The green is a rubberish plug inserted in a mangled bolt hole and painted over.  The edges of the plug were tight but there is a small hole in the middle that was dripping oil.  I want to resolve this as simply as possible but with some thing that will last more than a week.  Any suggestions?
