We have our 8070 up and running again after a complete engine rebuild. It runs very smooth and sound s good, but i have a few questions.
1. Is it normal for a rebuilt engine to use a lot of oil and smoke a lot even after initial break in? (We've ran it for about 10 hours. Went from full to add in 6 hours on the harvester) 2. We had it on the dyno at local dealership and it put out 220 Hp. Is that a concern for other components on the tractor? Should pump be sent to be adjusted? (I don't know what Hp it had before rebuild) Thanks

I don't really think it is going to be "broke in" in just ten hours, and yes they do use some oil during break in, are you absolutely sure you put the rings in correctly? Did you have a valve job done, that included checking the valve guides? That HP is perfectly normal for that tractor. I do think you need a few more hours on her to be fully broken in, but the smoke does concern me some.

MAKE SURE YOUR INJECTORS ARE INSTALLED CORRECTLY !! (not 180 degrees off) correctly means the return line is towards the valve cover. That engine at 220 PTO HP is going to smoke somewhat.....did you install new injector tips??????????????? turning pump down to 170 HP where it belongs is very easy to do when it was on the dyno.

I hope the injection pump wasn't also changed to raise the rated rpm.
I don't know about today's dynos, but when they first started showing up at dealers, they all read high. If they didn't, a dealer soon stopped using them as they would lead to unhappy customers. |

TThankyou Dr.Aliis! We did have the injectors installed wrong(180 degrees) for the first 10 hours. How harmful is that to an engine? Also dealership said they'd have to send pump (American Bosh) away to adjust HP?? The tractor still smokes white bluish smoke but i think it is burning a little less oil the more we use it . Thanks for the replies!

They will smoke for a while after rebuild. Take Dr. Allis' advice, get it turned down to rated pto power, I suspect most of the smoke will disappear, Trev.

Good luck and hopefully the oil consumption will stop soon. I went through a nightmare with a D-21 engine rebuild where the rings did not seat. Some of your horsepower is comming from burning the oil as fuel. PM me if the oil comsumption doesn't soon stop.

Two things: #1.This local dealer is a very poor Service dealer if he doesn't know how to turn the HP down on your 8070. #2. If he doesn't know how to turn down your pump, I'll bet he doesn't know how to run a dyno either....if it's an M&W dyno, they usually read high anyway.
