Looking for some advice. Been running an L3 for a few season now and looking to get a corn head. Would like to get an 8 row. I think it will be hard to find a clean gleaner head worth using. I've heard of guys putting JD heads on a Gleaner.
So, any thoughts? Can the L3 handle an 8 row. Anyone with any thoughts or experience in adapting a JD corn head to an L3? What model should I be looking at and any thoughts on adapting. Thanks guys! |

shouldn't have any problems with the 8 row except might get a little light on the back end, I added some suitcase weights on mine. I run 250 BPA corn @ 15% speed was showing 2.5 but felt faster tho, that's fun, sure fills the grain tank fast

We ran an 8 row on a L3 for about four years. It worked well but you don't want to stop too suddenly as it does get a bit light on the rear. Most of the time in 160-180+ corn we could run anywhere from 3.2-4 mph. I alway thought the 8 row gave a better sample than the 6 row did because the machine was fuller. With all that said you should be fine with one. If you can find one. They are getting harder to find. If we wouldn't have upgraded to an R62 we would still be running the 8 on the L3.

We ran a. 8row on a L2 for years. It handles it well. Your limiting factor is your shoe. You can shell it off quicker then you can seperate it, if you get into real good corn ( which we don't often here). But 150 to 170bu corn an L will shell a lot of corn with a 8-30. I don't know how far you want to travel, but I know a guy in Northern ILL. With a real nice 8-30A corn head always been shredded, very very low acres.

We run an 8 row head on a late L2. It has RWA and a second fuel tank on the back, and we have never had any balance issues. We ended up adding a third cylinder to lift it (even though we have the bigger rams), but after we did that, we have got along just fine with it.

250 bu corn with an 8 row on an L-3 would be more than a load...it would be like putting a 6 row on an F-3
