I'm looking at an M a guy has for sale. Supposed to have new brakes, new clutches, overhauled starter. Needs starter put in and it will supposedly run. Cosmetics are pretty ugly. Any idea what this might be worth? Any thing else I should check over on it? Problem areas?
Thanks, Joe

If you can't start it and drive it I wouldn't pay too much for it because you won't know if the tranny is good and steering clutches are free or not and the tracks have to come off to fix the clutches. Look at the block behind the carb to see if it's cracked, kind of a common problem. You can get a pretty clean looking one that's ready to work for under $3000 and it's worth $600 for scrap so depending on condition that would be the price range.

I seen one sell at 3 different auctions, same crawler all 3 times. 1st auction it brought $500, second auction it brought $950, and the 3rd time it brought $1800. Last auction was I believe in 2000, or 2001. It was rough, didn't run too bad, one steering clutch worked, the other didn't. Had a home made dozer on it the 1st auctions, it was off for the last auction. I think the M is one of the neatest little crawlers, and definitely is something on my "list of things to have before I die". Darrel

Is it a M, or a wide track M? (40" center to center of drive sprockets VS. 50") Seems like the narrow gauge bring a little more around here. Any goodies?.....PTO, generator, lights or fenders? Undercarriages are expensive to repair....serial #8430 and below originally had bushings VS. bearings in the truck wheels and front idler, but the newer replacements could be bolted in. Track support roller didn't switch to a bearing until serial#10942. They are fun little units, but Lonnie is close in my opinion on one ready to work, but not nessesarily pretty. Let us know how you make out.
