Ever since I got it, my Ford 8N has not charged correctly. Long story shortened, I got the genny rebuilt (it is a 6V system), installed a new 6V wiring harness and CORRECT 6V "A" Circuit regulator, polarized the generator, etc. The problem is the ammeter (which is good by the way) doesn't show charge until I gently tap on the regulator with a screwdriver handle or my pliers, etc. Once I tap it a little, charge rate pegs out at 30 amps for about 10 seconds, then stops. Then the needle goes back to 0 and stays there. I've tried 3 new regulators, and the same thing happens every time. And after a couple weeks, the battery is dead. I'm bumfuzzled! What's the problem here?
Thanks

Just shooting a wag here, no experience with this but, here goes.  I have in the past had bad grounds do that.  The gauge probably grounds and the mount, is the mount any way rusted/dirty/oily, or if grounded by wire, is it loose, frayed, rusty, have a green growth on it?  Just guessing here, hard for me to figure it out without see'n it.  Other than that, I don't have a clue, good luck with it.

Did you put three new regulators on of the smae brand same number? Heard some of the new regulators are nothing but junk .  Sounds like you rap it, and helps knock the points together and then it charges for a few seconds and releases and can't regulate. China junk? Dual polarity? Never understood those types.     Good luck. andlet us know how you solved it.

creston, you might reword your title to read something like "bumfuzzled, need electrical held on non charging gen". that way a person with electrical background/expertize is more likely to read your thread. good luck and let us know what the problem was when you get err fixed.
