I just purchased an early 190XT Diesel off a farm where it had been sitting for a while. Oil pump is bad, but the story is that it ran well until the pump issues. I see lots of possibilities for other major problems with it, but here's the plan: I have found a pump and will purchase it next week. We're going to pull the caps and look at main and Rod bearings and do a presure test on the cooling system. If all this checks out, we'll check out the top end, button her up and give her a go. I have very little money in it and am hoping to get it going on a relatively small budget. I want to fix it to use and enjoy. Would appreciate your good wishes and any thoughts or advice you want to share as I go to resurrect this pretty ole gal.

That is almost unheard of. Them pumps don't go bad often and when they do it takes a lot of things with it.   MACK

Hopefully the transmission does not jump out of any gear.  If so, there is a $2500 (give or take) rebuild.

I would have to agree with Mack.  Never heard of oil pumps crapping out on the 301s.

Way to go on grabbing that! 
Where 'bouts do you live around OKC? 
I live just sw of OKC- west of Mustang. 
I echo Darrel as you'll find it very fuel efficient as I grew up running these and you'll really enjoy running it once it's up and operational as it's a lot of fun just agittin' it across a field! 
If it has the 34" rims, I have a set of clamp on rims for duals(sold the tires off of them awhile back) if you'd be interested later on. 
Just be aware when putting it in gear to idle it down and stop the spinning shaft so as to not grind it into gear. 
You do this by putting it in reverse (or 1st, I think)and then back up to a 3rd for field work. I don't recall having any issues of going into 2nd or 4th. 
This is IF it doesn't drop into gear the first time you try. 
Also, after working it hard, let it cool down at idle for a couple of minutes before shutting it off. 
Is this your 1st time with something this big to learn to operate?

Here's a video of what I grew up listening to and doing. 
And the reason I wear hearing aids today- no hearing protection. 
Only difference is that we had a 5x16 plow, whereas this one is a 6 bottom plow.

More of the story: This is my first A-C, but I grew up on red and mostly green tractors. I got this one off a farm in Ada, Ok. There was a running G1000 Moline that had the tires burned off it or this tractor available. I chose the Allis. The man who owned the tractor before me died in a house fire in January. I bought the tractor from his son-in-law who is trying to clean up the property and get his family to the place where they can move on. Before he died, the gentleman had pulled pan and pump. I'm hoping because of low oil pressure. When I saw the tractor for the first time, the pump was laying in the pan and would not turn. I am hoping that is only because it rusted in the weather. The family claims that it was running when he parked it there and tore into it. I'm hoping we find that we can roll in some new bearings and solve the oil pressure issue and get this old girl going again. The deceased gentleman's daughter struggled with seeing the tractor leave and I assured her that my plan was to take it home to fix and use/enjoy and restore over time. Hopefully more news will come over time.

Question: If we visually inspect the bottom end and put the pump on, will it hurt anything to fill it with oil and pull it it in gear to see if it gets any oil pressure? Will that even tell us anything?

Was this the one that I posted awhile back that it was in a pic in the distance? 
Because the more that I looked at that pic, I was almost sure that it was a 190XT. 
Wish I could swing by and help you!
BTW-
The XT in the video had the rear end upgraded and the engine rebuilt to put out about 125 hp. 
I just tune to this video to get myself charged back up once in awhile!

If it's for sure a 190, pulling it in gear will not make the engine turn over. It has to have hydraulic pressure to the hand clutch. Wish you the best of luck getting her back going again.

I'd pull the mains and rods and see what the bearings look like. If they look ok, not spun or down to the brass, then I'd plastigage them and see how much clearance is there. If they look good I'd run them.  There was a reason the old fellow pulled the pan and now you got to figure out why.
 
I recently picked up a 190xt myself and have done a number of repairs on it. The guys on this site are pretty sharp and helpful. Good luck getting back in service.

Update: You more experienced and wiser A-C guys called this one from the get go. This weekend I had a little time to work on the 190XTD. I crawled up under it and pulled a rod cap. The oil pump was bad and the engine has unquestionably been starved for oil. The bearing was spun and it looks to me like there was a fair amount of metal transfer. I have priced over haul kits, etc. and have decided to go with another engine I have found that will work for this application and is reasonably priced. At this point, I'm trying to get my ducks in a row and get her split so I can get this project going. Even in this situation, I'm still feeling pretty fortunate with this old tractor. Any advice for unique things to look for as I move forward?
