Hey guys I have a d15 with a shuttle and have a few questions. Is it ok to feather the shuttle clutch? Has anyone used this set up to brush hog? I know the pto will be spinning around 800 rpms, but cant the throttle be backed off enough?
Thanks Andrew

I was always told by my grandfather that the dealer told him the way to bail hay with a d17 was to feather the shuttle clutch whenever there was a big clump of hay. The same d17 is one I am currently working on today because the shuttle clutch finally gave out but after several decades of bailing hay in this manner and I also found that my shuttle clutch had been run dry. I have posted a question about how to fill it and with what oil. But it is my understanding and experience that the shuttle clutch in the d serries tractors are designed to allow you to slip them in order to provide live power.

As long as they have oil you can slip them. They are a wet clutch, the oil cools them so they are pretty tough. The original spec was non detergent 20w but that can be tough to find so I use universal tractor hyd fluid or AW32
