Thanks, Captaindana,
I have thought of baling hay here on the property. Might be cheaper to have someone come in and bale my piddly 11 acres of pasture, but I kind of want the ability to be a bit self sufficient, and not dependent on the scheduling needs of others. If I can sell my city house, I may buy more land, or, branch out and do niche baling. Your comments about the D19 handling hay baling is just what I needed to hear. thanks, Dex Edited by Dexter Peabody - 09 Aug 2012 at 7:06pm |

Check that D-19 out if you can first. Make sure hand clutch snaps in and out smoothly and snug in both hi and lo. Drive down a hill in 3rd and 4th gears and idle down while going down hill,if it pops out of gear it can get pricey to fix.Any noise in rear end? I am sure this man you are dealing with is honest, but some problems with these old girls can be a handfull. If you have a shop and skills it's not as drastic as I say, but without shop and skills it can be difficult, expensive to fix. With him giving you time to pay you will have time to find any major problems

Hi, Pat,
Thank you so much for the suggestions on what to look for when I look at it Wednesday. If you, or, others on here have any other suggestions of what to check for when I am looking this D19 over, i would appreciate all the suggestions and help that I can get. p/d, gear jumper ( run it in second and 3rd high and find a small hill going down run the throttle up to wide open and back off a few times and see if she jumps out) oil pressure when hot, check for blow bye also when hot. check hydraulic function, listen for abnormal sounds in rear-end after ran around and gear oil is warmed up. p/s function, just look for normal stuff you'd look at on a piece of machinery that's over 50 years old. our d-19 g is thirsty but it does everything we ask of it and comes back for more. our 19 will use 5-6 gph when straining it's nuts( that 262g purrs like a kitten very smooth and is very quiet) no ringing ears at the end of the day. $2500 is a steal for any d-19. i like ours so well we have just purchased a 2nd one and should be getting it the same time you get yours. this one is a diesel and will be used for plowing&disking (fuel miser)LOL pete

Hi, Cornbinder,
All of you guys have helped ma arrive at the decision to go ahead and buy it and park it along side my WD45. I thought that it was a good price, because one just sold in the area for $4,500 a couple months ago. It looked almost new, but this one is not bad at all from what I can see. I meet with the current owner toward the end of next week. I was the grease monkey on our farm back in the 60's, but since I have been gone since 1965, I have lost just about everything that I knew, or, thought that I knew back then. That is why what you and Pat the Plumber have told me to look for is very important information for me. I really do appreciate everyone who posted along the line on their thoughts on my WD45 with Loader, and whether I should try to trade, or, sell it to get the D19. I was surprised that the consensus was that I should keep both. I was happy as heck to have ONE Allis, never knew that I really NEEDED TWO, until the idea was put forth here. ![]() Again, thanks everyone. If anyone else has suggestions on what I should look for when I go look and, if all is well, buy it next week, please speak up. Thanks! Dex |
