    Posted: 01 Aug 2012 at 5:58pm
The oil pressure has dropped on my B this summer.  I have a mower under it and the pressure is usually at the middle of the gauge when mowing warm and now it stays down at about 4 to 6 psi all the time.  It gradually worked its way down there over the last few months.  I am wondering if there is an obvious place I should look first to solve this problem.  I loosened off the oil filter when it was running and there was no real pressure that sprayed the oil out like I have had from loose oil filters on cars I forgot to tighten up before starting.  Is this the way it should be?  I changed the oil at the start of the mowing season this spring same as always.  10 W 30 oil viscosity.

I find most of the B-C type tractors have oil pressure like you have. My 40 which has lots of blowby, will run 18 lbs when cold and drop to 6-8 when hot. Bob

Did like you suggested, wd45, and I now have 20 psi cold and about 12 psi hot.  There was a lot of sludge in the bottom of the pan and in the oil that came out, not so much in the screen.  Strange that all came loose like that this year and not before as I have had it for 20 years now.
Thanks
