What is the stock rocker ratio? I wonder how these hold up. I still like to drag a plow around here at home once and awhile. Direct bolt in ?

I ran the murpphy 1.85 rockers.the stock rockers measure 1.46 some say 1.48.anyway if you actually measure the factory valve lift due to the bad geometry its usually around 1.38 ratio so going to the 1.85 gives you about 6 degrees more duration along with more valve lift.I recommend buying a oem shaft that's new so you don't embed any trash into the aluminum.also the stands are the same height as the factory so in order to correct geometry and use the oem pushrods the valve stems height should be 5.010 long unless you tend to side with kamp.but I do have pictures of the Murphy rockers and correct t geometry with 5.010 valves stems . If you choose not to do these recomendation you will still see some gains just not the most for the dime so to speek cause a 1.85 rocker with geometry issues still produces more net valve lift than a 1.46 rocker with geometry issues. hold up well as long as no trash embeds itself into the aluminum . ps oem valve spring are really out of the question and need to be changed due to the increased valve lift or valve float will be a issue.

I have used some IH 361 and 407 diesel engine rockers on the Allis in the past. They are a 1.65 ratio.
The nice thing about them is if you want 1.65 ratio on the intakes and 1.45 or whatever the OEM Allis ones are you can do so on the exhaust.
But the push rods sit at a little angle and you need to slot your push rod holes in the head if you are useing a 4" tall head. Much easier if you have a 3" tall head.
The Murphys setup uses an offset mount. I've gotten a couple sets from them in the past for a 3 and 4 inch head. Super nice product. I had made a set of high ratio roller rockers long agoe before these were available, but as long as I can buy them if needed I'll get the Murphys setup.
Last winter I made bushings for a few sets of the IH rockers, and honed them for the Allis conversion. I might have a bunch of them left here ready to go if I look in my box of rockers if you want something real cheap. Edited by wi50 - 21 Jan 2012 at 12:50pm |
