i plan to use my d 17 series 4 diesel for snow blowing this year however running the 3pt hyd. steering and working the power director is too much of a hassel. I noticed that my power director shaft runs clear through to the left side and was wondering if any one has ever built a foot pedel on it and made it foot operated hi/ n / lo? any  suggestions.
thanks Brandon Doyle

You may be the first to try.  You probably want foot pressure required to be in motion and no foot pressure to be neutral. maybe keep the lever and have the foot only operate low side and neutral?

I would consider creating a front mount blower if you'd rather keep the tractor original.

My neighbor has a reversed d17 with a loader on it, that someone fabricated a foot operated PD on it. It does free up a hand, but the little bit that I ran it, I think that a person would have a mighty sore leg after about an hour of using it. Darrel

I think AC should have found a way to keep the hydraulic lever to the left of the steering wheel....not many people have 3 right hands LOL! The foot operated pd (shuttle) that I have used didn't work that well....not enough leverage in a pedal.

I removed the big stick and built a foot pedal rocker to operate the  shuttle on my I-60 35 years ago.
Nothing is impossible if it is properly financed

The I60 parts books shows the optional left foot hydralicly assisted shutttle control.  If you dont have the hyd assist your gonna wear your knee out.  My I60 had a fabricated foot shuttle control that wasnt very handy and was worn out.   I dont use the tractor very much so I went back to the big stick.   It would be neat to find the hydralic assit setup though!!!!!!!

You should try it w/o power steering!  Steering one handed w/ manual and running the hi/lo stick is a challenge.  To help out, every fall I put in some rerod elec fence posts down the length of my long driveway.  My neighbor gave me a big round mirror he had on a tractor he bought, I put that on the RH loader frame.  So I line up the posts in the mirror and try to keep it as straight as I can.  Usually by the end of winter I get pretty good.  Hafta relearn every December though.  Sometimes I have to straighten out the edge with my Wheel Horse mounted blower or my neighbor comes over and asks if I have been drinking.  Manuevering around the shop and the mirror doesn't help as much, but its okay.
cheers,
Creek
