When I bought my D15, it came with a 400 loader with front pump (loader is in excellent condition).  Now that I have restored the tractor, I am wondering whether I should put the loader back on.  If I do, it would get restored as nice as the tractor looks (I have tracked down some NOS parts and decals for it).  Safe to say, even with the loader on it, I would not be doing heavy duty work with it.

Should I restore the loader and put it on the tractor, or just leave it off???  What are your thoughts?

By all means restore and mount loader, won't do you any good sitting in the weads. It was offered by AC, and adds value and versatility to tractor. I assume you will still be using it [ as you should] .

How about buy another D15 to use the loader on? I would leave the restored tractor as is. It looks too good to add anything to it, and the loader is too useful to be on a tractor that won't get used.

You can't appreciate a great looking D15 like yours with a loader hanging on it. Put the unrestored loader on an unrestored D15 and put it to work.

If you restore the loader as well as you did the tractor it will be something unique and of historic value. More people are restoring implements to go with their restored tractors all the time, a pristine factory loader is something you don't see very often at shows and it will set your tractor apart from other D series tractors on display. A tractor with a plow, a cultivator or other implements usually gets more attention and comments than just a tractor alone.

you could have known that you would get a variety of answers...options are good. part of what you do...is it determined by ?do you 'need' a loader?   no matter what you do ,,,it will look good if we judge by the good looking work already done.

If your not going to restore the loader, buy a D14 or D17 or a d19 and put it on, or just sell the loader... Don't let it sit in the weeds.
Your D15 IS sharp looking.  And when you buy the next one to put the loader on... It will probably get that special treatment too... so go restore your loader,  and put it on... LOL

Either way, you have a winner. There are plenty of no equiped tractors out there. It's always nice to see something that reminds us of " what we had and used on the farm ".

I vote for restoring the loader and installing it on the tractor. Like was said earlier there is increasing interest in restored implements and attachments. At a GOTO, once you look at 15 perfectly restored WD-45's, they all blend in and look the same. Yours will stand out with the loader on. IMO.
Nothing is impossible if it is properly financed

i think if you restore the loader you will be tempted to use it , and if you have used a loader before you know things happin fast and there "goes a grill- rad. or hood. just my thought.

make sure and have another loader tractor on hand to prevent temptation, then restore the loader and put it on the tractor.

Another vote for restoring the loader.  Keep history alive of how tractors were commonly modified in the field is also a good thing.

And maybe get another bucket to use when you are tempted to use the loader!!  Wink

Myron,

I'd restore the loader and install it! If that loader looks anything like the tractor after its done (which I'm sure it will) I think it would look great on there. JMHO.  But, its your Tractor, do what YOU think is right.  That "15" is sweeeet!!

The tractor is beautiful - you did a great job. To me, it depends on how you are going to use the tractor --- if you are only going to let it set and occasionally show or parade it, I'd leave the loader off. If you have plans to use it fo some work around your place -- no doubt about it, I'd put the loader back on.   In fact - you can put the loader back on and park it in my barn -- LOL.
