    Posted: 18 Aug 2012 at 8:56pm

Hi,

I'm trying to learn a little bit about this tractor, which I believe to be an Industrial D15.  I have a lot of questions and would really appreciate any information concerning this tractor.

Is this an ID15?  What was the original color?  It looks like it has yellow primer, PO2, and then a coat of industrial yellow.  How rare are these and what is it worth?

There isn't a drawbar, 3-point and the PTO seems to be mostly covered up, would it be simply to convert this to a more farm ready tractor?

The engine has 2185 hours on it, is this a lot of hours?  The engine does turn over, but the batter or starter is too weak, so I tried to pull start it.  With the transmission in gear, the engine would not turn over, is there another clutch on it?  In the picture looking at the steering wheel, there are two levers on the left side, the large one says "forward" and "reverse" and then there is a smaller lever behind it, what are these for?

Any guess as to what company manufactured the loader?

In first picture, there are several gauges missing, any idea which ones are gone?

Lastly, given the following numbers from the tractor, could you please help me to identify it's year of manufacture and whether it uses the same engine as the D14 or the later, more powerful engine?

Engine: (right side) DC20U, (left side) 160-17803R

Transmission: AM4165, flange 6155110

Axle: AM4303-6

Thank you!

YEs, the heavy front grill and the heavy front axle show it is an industrial unit. I think they were called I-60 or I-600 depending on the age. Loader frame and no 3 point or PTO are other common signs. This would be a good tractor to purchase and rebuild. I think it is based on a D15 / motor/ rear end.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Motor number 160- means a 160 cubic inch motor. That is the bigger motor from the D15, not the smaller 149 motor.

This is a 615 Industrial that was at Hutch in 2007-- not mine.

A few observations:  Smaller lever on left is pto clutch, forward is on. I believe the PTO is non standard, on this tractor, does not run at 540. Big lever on left is a F/R shuttle clutch, similar to the power director, which is a hi/lo clutch, on farm tractors.  I don't think the frame in back is set up for a hoe, maybe a concrete breaker(drop hammer).  2,000+ hours, if that's all aren't much, on a farm tractor, but the hours are harder, on industrials.  Sounds like the motor is locked up, try turning the front crank, with all levers in neutral, and the front pump disconnected.  Big hole in dash is for the original tach, smaller holes were for key switch, rubber starter button, perhaps other o.e.  switches.

It is an I-60, I-600, or 615 which are all basicly the same and based on the D-15 series II tractor. The differances in the models mentioned was in the backhoe attachment. The loader is not the A-C factory loader for that tractor.
Nothing is impossible if it is properly financed

Thanks for all of the information guys!!

I finally got her running today.  The carburetor float or needle must not be working properly as it hydro-locked on me several times before I could get it started.  It ran somewhat poorly at first, but did run better the longer it ran.

What would be a fair price to pay for this machine? A compression test had the following results: 1-150, 2-140, 3-130, 4-155.  Should I worry about cylinder number 3?  Is the D15 II engine reliable?

Issues

  • Carburetor needs to be cleaned and rebuilt
  • Weak coil
  • None of the gauges work
  • Missing some gauges
  • Should be rewired
  • Rear main seal is leaking?? (oil is leaking rapidly out of a hole in the bell housing)
  • Looks to be water contamination in the rear axle

Also, how difficult would it be to put a 3-point on it?  What parts would I need besides the hitch itself.  I would like to restore it with the exception of adding a 3-point to it.

This will be a major project for me, so I want to make sure I don't pay too much up front and run out of money before it's finished.

Sounds like it could need a lot of work but think what fun you can have after it looks like this again.

Everything that you say it needs are relatively cheap to get through some of the vendors here.  However, it would be rather difficult to put a 3ph on it.

We can help you out with the first 5 issues if you need parts or service such as new wiring system, carb rebuilt or parts, along with gauges etc. Looks like a good Tractor to work with and get whipped into shape. Good Luck! Hope you purchase it!

Loader was most likely made by Henry Manufacturing Co. which was eventually acquired by AC.

It appears to be an early 615 Industrial with Shuttle Clutch.  Loader looks odd particularly the vertical brace support near the gas tank.

Most 615's I have seen utilize the loader boom as the hydraulic reservoir.  Looking closely at  your pics you can see the hydraulic reservoir is located on the operators left hand station which complicates the seating arrangement.

615 also came with optional tire and rim sizes.   See depth of rim on the 615 that is in the color photos.

Also seat is not original.

Could be a good machine with elbow grease.

Good luck with it!  Orangeman

I have to admit, that is the best non-orange colored tractor that I have seen. :-)

Thanks Steve!  If we can agree on a price, I will be needing those parts come November.

Thanks everyone for all of the help, I think this would be a great project and my daughter agrees.  However, she has forbidden me from selling the B, she said that I should keep both!  Pretty smart for 4 years old. LOL
