I took 2 WD radiators to the shop. Told them to fix both if they didn't need much. One needed a $175 fix and the other needed a $450 re-core. Naturally I fixed the cheaper one. But they wanted $75 just to look at the other one, which they would waiver if I left it there in their scrap pile. Oh man, I hated to leave it there but I had to make a split second decision and surely didn't want to pay another $75. How bad did I screw up?

I bought a "new" rad that was made in Ireland of all places. It sure didn't cost that much, if memory serves me (and it usually doesn't) it was around $350.

I thought I read somewhere that those old original radiators were solid copper, no? Wouldn't it have been worth more than $75 in salvage?

Les,
I have done that kind of stuff and then second guessed my self all the way home. I think you did OK you only needed one. Hope the repaired one last for a long time too. I have been real luck not to have to buy one yet, with all these WD's hanging around the place. Regards, Chris |

Hey Guys,,,I'm just curious on these radiators and am sure glad I don't need to replace one,,,,yet,!! Has anyone looked into the possibility of using one of the aluminum big tube radiators like the ones the drag racers and roundy round guys use? Just thinking,,, ![]() |

I got one of the new, imported radiators for a friend for around $250 including shipping. I'm sure it's probably aluminum instead of copper, but it works well on his tractor. He was very happy to get it at that price.
I guess the local guy that works on my radiators is pretty reasonable. He fixed some leaks and cleaned one for me a couple years ago for less than $100. |

Eldon that what I ment by cleaned you take all the steel off. They call the dirty when they have steel, plastic or something other that copper on them. Same goes for the aluminum rads or cast. One old car wheel will knock a load of good cast down to tin price. So at 75 buck I believe he done very well like I said I believe I got 25 for the last I tock off it was off a 2000 ford tractor I believe it would be close to same weight clean.

Les,
You did good on your Radiator. Like you said, ya only need one! LOL! If the Radiator guy is good, you shouldn't have to worry about it unless you accidently put a tree branch or somethin' through it. LOL! Steve@B&B |

never heard of anyone charging you to "look at 1" If they pressure tested it, flow tested it, etc there should be a charge. I know our local rad shop is high but not like that.
