Has anyone had a Power Director Clutch disengage under a hard pull? It don’t feel like a clutch slipping as much as a transmission jumping out of gear, but the transmission isn’t jumping out.  I checked the pressures on the valve while sitting still with cold oil and both low and high readings are between 170 and 180 psi. I have to get some longer hoses to check while the clutch is acting up.

Engage your PTO. If the PTO stops moving when you get the slippage, then its your engine clutch. If the PTO stays spinning the problem is in the PD or the transmission.

Nathan I already thought of that it is in the Power Director

Thanks DrAllis I finally found that in the service manual 220 psi, I tried to put a washer in pressure regulator and slowly engage the clutch, but it must have been to much because the pressure went to 250 before I could get the control lever latched so I stopped. Of couse no one has the shims around here, I ordered them and they will be in in a couple days. Do you know how much each shim will raise the pressure.

Well I get the shims, checked them agianst the washer that I tried, two of the shims was the same as the washer. I put one shim in and checked it the pressure was at 270 psi. removed my gauges and drove it. Now I can kill the tractor with the power director with no problem. But of course like every thing else with this trator every time I fix one problem I find another. While I was driving it around the yard I have a steep bank that I went down and it jumped out of third. Hopefully I can put up with it next summer and it will be a next winter project. I still have a lot to do to it, injector pump, wiring, vavle cover gasket, and more along with repairs needed to the baler.
