On a 170 can the O ring on the pto lever be replaced without splitting the tractor?

Well if it wasn't for the steel roll pin, yes.  Since there is really no room in there to drive the pin out, you are pretty much stuck.  The good news...It really doesn't take much to split the 'ol girl.  frankly I think it takes longer to drain the oils than it does to split.
