I doing some custom track hoe work for a guy who has a 185 in a shed doesn't look like it been used in a while. It is a diesel I saw that but haven't look any closer sheet metal look far don't remember the tires. But I ask him how he liked it and he made it plane he didn't like it at all his list of things wrong was the pto was twisted off agen and a welded place in side of block but did say it had a good engine other than that it seams like he said something about the clutch but I don't really remember. Any way I have the feeling it could be bought cheep. Iv never been around 185 much so I was wonder if the pto was something that happens offended and what would be a good price on it if he does want to sell. Thanks in advance. Tomarrow I will try to look it over better and get some pictures

I have never heard of any pto's "twisting off". Check to see if the 185 has a bolt on 540/1000 shaft (mine has that) or a straight 540 shaft. If it's the bolt on shaft, they are readily available for under $150.

It's hard to say what it's worth, but it sounds like it has had a rough life. I, personally, would rather look for one with less problems, even if I had to pay a little more for it. If you do pursue it, make sure the transmission is ok and it stays in all gears. The cost of a transmission repair can come close to the value of a 185.
