LAST YEAR MY PTO GOT STUCK WHILE ROTOTILLING AND WHEN I WENT TO DISENGAGE THE PTO THE ROLL PIN SNAPED. TODAY I FINALLY GOT SOME TIME TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT. I GOT THE ROLL PIN OUT AND REPLACED IT WITH A BOLT. BUT THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS THE COLLAR WONT SLIDE IT IS STUCK ON THE FRONT SHAFT. HAS ANYBODY RUN INTO THIS BEFORE AND IS THERE A TRICK TO GET THE COLLAR TO MOVE. THE SPLINS LOOK OK I LOOKED WITH AN INSPECTION MIRROR BUT AS YOU CAN SEE SOMETHING HAPPENED TO THE COLLOR OR SHAFT MAKING IT NOT TO BE ABLE TO SLIDE. I AM DOOING ALL THIS WORK THROUGH THE INSPECTION HOLE. SNY HELP IS GREATLY APPRICIATED

I had same problem when bush hoging . You have twisted the splines on the short shaft . You can remove it with out taking tractor apart. I took a 41/2 side grinder and got mine freed up . you need a slip clutch because you might not be as lucky next time.

I got the collar loose and strightened splines with grinder . There is a notch you can use to get big snap ring out but to get it back i got a pipe coupling and made an adapter to drive it back in from rear where pto shaft comes out . You have to take freeze plug out of front but you can get one at a automotive store. The shaft has to come out . You will know you have been there when you get it repaired! GOOD LUCK!

Ben a while since i done mine .I think when you take out big snap ring you can nock it out from freeze plug end. For some reason i drove the shaft back that clutch pedel works on to make it easier to get detent ball in. Happened twicee on mine and i put slip clutch on and haven,t had any more troble.
