I saw these unusual B real steel wheels at a show today in Wisconsin. They had pads like a crawler, and they were "loose", so when you grabbed them you could move them from side to side and forward and back. The pad mounting loops had large openings to allow for this movement. It clattered along like a crawler when it was driven. They appear to have been made only to fit the B or C. Are these aftermarket, or did AC make these? ![]() ![]() Edited by GBACBFan - 08 Sep 2012 at 7:26pm |

Those are different, never seen anything like them. All the flat metal pieces remind me of the extra traction devices that were sold for Fords/Fergusons, I saw a set adapted to an Allis down at Montevideo.

I believe they were a after market called FlexTread. They were available in the different tire/rim sizes of the day. Neat find.

I agree - aftermarket. I've seen them on the N series Fords. Cool accessory though!

I think I remember someone refering to them on here as retrax lugs too, I think maybe Michael Crowe knows something about them.

Those are not retrak lugs, but they are neat. Michael

Since they move, they have the capacity to 'clean' themselves. Neat idea, but doesn't take nearly as much money in rubber to do the same thing. The advantage arises either when rubber is scarce, or serious puncture threats exist. Steel wheels laugh at locust thorns...

Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.
