and NH 489 on second cutting. I knocked down 14 acres today, and while enjoying the task for over 4 hours I decided it couldn't get much better than it was. The 170 in 2nd low growling away and the 489 doing what it has done for twenty some years. They are a great match and I enjoyed every minute. Just thought I'd share that with y'all. Dana

I know exactly what you mean!! Around here in central KY. haybines are almost a thing of the past. I will say that I cut all grass hay and first cutting alfalfa with a discbine,but I cut 2nd,3rd,4th? cuttings of my whopping 12 acres of alfalfa with the D-17 gas and NH 495 12' haybine. Handles it fine in 3rd. low. I'm just like you,I love every minute of it. It's kinda like what Toyota says,"OH WHAT A FEELING." Good luck getting your hay baled!!!!!

Ky Allis I hear ya. I remember when the Haybine first appeared. Grampa bought a 460 or 461 and we had that forever before the 488, then 489. And today I admired whar a smooth efficient gorgeous hay machine it still is. It'll cut a 90* or more acute corner effortlessly and not leave an uncut stem. The 170 burned 10 gallons on 14 hilly acres and I'm running 2nd low because the drought stricken crop is short and the slower I go the more I get. I have 30 more acres for tomorrow and Monday to cut while my son gets to tedding inbetween loading trailers NC bound. I need to finish this coming week as I go get my new Lear on Sat!!
