I'm headed out tomorrow to check out a 444 wire baler, can anyone tell me if they are a good baler and if there are any parts that were failure prone so I don't overlook any potential issues? Also if anyone has any history of the 444's I would appreciate any additional information or suggested value.
Thanks.

We have a 444, baler without the kicker, and love it.  We don't use it for a ton of bales, maybe a hundred a year, mostly just to play.  Our will mis tie on the first few bales untill everything get shinned up again, one of my knotters is not quiet right.  I have been looking for parts, they are available, but not plentiful.  I just have never pulled the tirgger on buying them since it really isn't a huge problem for us.  As for the general baler, I think it is pretty bullet proof, just a good solid work horse.  Make sure it is all there, including the wheel on the pickup, and the driveshaft.  Check out the shear pin on the front flywheel, make sure there isn't a lot of play in it, otherwise you will have a hard time holding pins. Make sure the needles are straight and not bent.  I would hand crank it through one tie cycle and watch eveything dance correctly, before I power it through one.  Then if possible watch the current owner bale something, but that might not be possible right now.  Just beware of rust in the bale chamber, and look for wear on the ram tracks in the front.  If they kept it in the shed, and kept oil on the tracks, and grease in the pivot points, you sould be good.

Thanks Orange Blood,
From what I've heard this baler has not been in a shed so I will definietly check for internal rust to see how bad it is. If they were easier to come by the price might be a little easier to swallow, but 2500 seems a little steep to me. Thanks again for the reply

No, I passed it up. I tried a lowball but it was unsuccessful. I will continue my search but if anyone knows where any model wire tie allis baler is for sale please let me know.
Thanks.
