I'm thinking about looking at a 2007 Kubota M9540 4x4 with cab and loader. Problem is these tractors were never tested at Nebraska...so there are no performance specs on them.....and 2600 rpm seems a bit high for economy with a diesel. I would be using it in the winter for plowing snow, and in the summer for some dirty mowing jobs where a cab and AC would be nice. I would need to have the wheels set out to 8' wide front and back for the mower. What would be the easiest way to do this? I have a friend who has a CNC machining center and was thinking maybe just some spacers?? Or maybe some adapters and put on some AC PAW's....18.4 x 30's on the back and 12.4 x 24's on the front...comments??

i don't think they have tested tractors at the Nebraska lab for years! alot of AC's weren't tested there back in the '80's. i know the 7010's weren't!

The tractor lab is still alive and well. See their web site. http://tractortestlab.unl.edu/ About the only AC tractor I know of not tested at Nebraska was the 200, but it was just sold under the 190XT testing. The 7010 Power Director 20 Speed was Nebraska test number 1345 while the 12 Speed Power Shift diesel was test number 1346. Both tests were in May, 1980. Eldon I'v never owned one of that brand but they seem to be popular, and I have not heard any complaints. I own a JD 4320 with cab and ac , use it for a lot of things one is pulling a 11' finish lawn mower, sure makes job easy with nice work environment. I do have concern with high rpm's to get pto speed mine turns 2400 at rated pto speed. Another concern is all the "high teck" electronics but mine is now 6 yrs old with 1700 hr's and no problems yet.

I looked at the PTO speed, 540@2205 RPM, not sure of HP at 2200 tho.

You can reverse the wheel centers and change tires and wheels from one side to the other and keep the correct direction. 8 foot wheel spacing should'nt be a problem.that is if it has steel wheels , I think there is a cast option on these as well. A friend of mine bought two of these and his only concern was the hyd fluid /trans housing gets hot. Don't seem to be a problem as the dealer told him it was ok. Otherwise he loves them. I have a problem keeping up with all the model changes!! I don't seem to have that problem with AC. Scott

I've been looking at the Kubota tractor lineup for a number of years and have been favorably impressed with their early incorporation of Tier 3 & 4 technology that has been engineered in and not added on. The rated speed of the 9540's V3800-DI-T engine may be 2600 rpms but the 540 PTO engine rpms are 2200. A somewhat flat HP curve of the older V3800 engines puts essentially almost max HP power at 2200 rpms..so you are loosing nothing...especially when you look at the rather flat torque curve that is max at 1500 and remains relatively flat but does tail off at the high end RPMs. If there is one criticism, it would be that the Kubota engines seem to develop max torque a little earlier (lower rpms) than most diesels I've studied. However for running hay mowers, balers ,etc... equipment that can operate effectively at well below rated PTO speed of 540... the max torque at lower rpms may be a plus. Kubota supplies axle extensions, but the extensions are not recommended for tractors with loaders..might be a stress issue, but I believe any warranty is null and void if you do install them. I was going to buy an 8540 with 4wd, cab, etc a few years back, but the front 4WD axle, while possessing superior clearance over competing makes, nevertheless was adjudged too narrow to effectively run a big round baler. During the weave cycle crowding the sides of windrows would mean my periodically running over clover and alfalfa hay... not a good idea.

Just let it be known that parts are VERY expensive and often oddly engineered...which is Ok if your in Asia. We had a starter go out on one here at school. The local shop had no way of rebuilding it and a new and/or rebuilt one would have cost $700+ for a 30hp tractor. Personally I've never driven a Kubota that was comfortable.
