So I am the proud new owner of a D-14, the tractor had been sitting for a couple years prior to me getting it. When I first got it running the lift arms raised quickly and functioned like they should. Well now it seems to be having issues, the lift will work fine when the tractor is first started but it will cut out after a few raise and lower cycles. My first thought was low oil so I checked it and topped it off but that didn't change anything. What I have found is that by holding the raise/lower lever in the raise position with the clutch depressed and then slowly releasing the clutch seems to make it lift, but if you release the clutch to quickly it will only raise a couple inches and stop.

Nice clean D14! You May try changing the oiL. While it Is drained you maybwant to rUn some kerosene through the houaing. A tractor sitting that long may have some dirt issues. Hopefully that would do it.

Is it still full of oil after you raise and lower it a few times? Sounds like it is pumping the oil into the rear end.  MACK

had a quite similar issue with my D15. Was like mack said. My hydraulic oil level kept going low. After adding oil a couple times, I figured out it was going into the trans/rear end housing. Still haven't got it fixed yet, though. Darrel

Thanks for all the help so far, The more I think about it, it almost acts like it has a restriction on the pump intake. Do these tractors have a inlet screen or filter of some kind that coul be picking up something and when I push the clutch in or shut the engine off the crud falls away and lets it start pumping again?

Thank you, it is a pretty little machine and I think it will be a handy work horse once I get this hydraulic issue straightened out.

Like others said you may be losing fluid from a bad hose to the cylinder and the fluid is going into rear end. My friend's D14 was like this...he left it like that for years.....trans overflowed and would leak out on the floor and ruined the brakes. He got me to fix all that stuff last spring.

Topping of the fluid had no effect on it. It is a intermittent problem. I can hear the pump chatter and it tries to raise very very slowly.

When you say that first thing that pops into my head is its low on fluid. You sure hydraulics is still full? Just making sure before moving on to other possibilities.

Where are you checking the Hyd oil level at?

On a 14 the Hyd oil is checked with a breather dipstick on the right hand side of the torque tube near the belt pulley location. The power director oil level is a hex plug dipstick just bellow the oil pressure gauge and the transmission/differential is the bigger breather cap dipstick to the left of the gear shift lever.

I checked it at the breather on the side of the torque tube. It doesn't seem to be losing any oil and it was only a quart or so low when I first checked it. It is full to the top of the hatched on the dipstick now.
