Just got an allis g with a very low serial #  looked it up and comes back to a 1948.  It seems to have a very narrow rear axle.  The axle tubes are only about 8-10 inches long.  Anybody have any idea what this is/was?  Thanks Bruce

We have 2 G's that are narrowed up. They were used around here (Indiana) to drill wheat in between the corn rows. My father did this with a new G in the 50"s. With the axles cut down they were able to drive down between 2 wide (38-40") rows of corn with a one  row wheat drill. Hope that helps

Thanks for the info. A few more questions  Were the narrowed G's from the factory or was it something that was done aftermarket?  Are they particulary rare?  Bruce
