I am working on a 245 MF. The pump is leaking around the throttle shaft and the gasket on the window. Has anyone had any luck taking the top off and replacing the gasket and orings on the throttle and shutoff shafts. The injection shop wont do anything but tear it down and replace all the seals to the tune of $595. He said it is leaking past the other seals a putting to much pressure in the head.

The orings get worn and old then leak, I have changed a bunch of them. You have to remove top to pull trottle shaft out of the top to replace the orings. Look at the trottle linkage and spring after you raise the top up a little to see which holes they are hooked in, and be careful not to drop little pin spring hooks to on gov plate. you need 4 orings and a gasket.

the only problem with just changing orings is the shaft usually wears grooves in the bore of top cover. otherwise, 4 orings, 2 fiber washers, and a gasket. We have the top covers sent out and steel bushings installed. I usually find all the other seals will be hard and dry, but this can buy you a little time.
