    Posted: 06 Mar 2012 at 9:27am

Well im still working on getting the 175 to fire up.  Had some issues getting a good hot consistent spark on the beast.  I replaced the points, condensor, rotor, and coil.  I then had no spark.  i followed the hot wire from the coil back to a resistor, wire then comes back out the resistor and up to solenoid.  Said resistor is literally broken.  I had the wire unplugged from the broken resistor but still connected to the solenoid, no spark.  I then connected it to the broken resistor and i now have proper spark.  Where can i get a replacement resistor for this.  Autozone, advanceauto???? Is this resistor needed to make the tractor run, i am no electric guru.  Powerwashed the rig off and it looks much better.  All four tires are now holding air.  And the hyd pump will get worked on this weekend.  Thanks all.

If you put the right coil in it, you can through the resistor away. Just another thing to go wrong.

If I am reading this rite, yes you should be able to get a ballast resistor at an auto parts store no problem. When you bought new coil, shouldve got one that was internally resisted, eliminating the in line one. Remember to set the dwell on the new points, a matchbook cover will do, and you will have to adjust the timing a little bit too. Good luck, lets see some washed off pics of the old girl.

OK thanks for the quick replys!!  If im reading my IT schematic right, this is how im going to described it to you.  If you had the resistor sitting in from running from left to right.  A wire from the solenoid runs into the left side of resistor, said wire then backtracks out the same left side of the resistor.  Here is where schematic comes into play, it then reads that a wire runs from right side of resistor to the key switch.  Confused yet??  I dont see how i can delete resistor and leave wire to key switch open??
