Did unstyled wc's ever have a straight up manifold? Mine is not but just asking. Mine is a gas only with no starting tank. I ruined mine in the blast cabinet. It was paper thin between the intake and exhaust and I ate through on both sides.

Not that I know of from the factory but I never saw an unstyled without a starter tank either. A lot of them had replacement straight up manifolds when a new one was needed and that is all that the dealer had to offer.

Thanks Tucker. I figuared that would be the case. I'm a little worried about buying another used one and having the same problem.

Does anyone know the year when Allis switched from the side-shooter manifold to the through-the-hood manifold and muffler? My 1940 model has the side-shooter manifold.

I always thought it was 1948 when the WD
came out, then I saw a precision model WD with a side shooter manifold. ????????? I guess model makers aren't always right.???

Parts book shows straight up starting with engine #106509 which would be approximately 1940. Before that it was side shooter and on all low octane engines.
