Ok,silly me didn't take any pictures before I removed the clutch to replace the ring gear.
Now I see that the clutch disc has different heights of the center splined 'hub'. None of the drawings or pictures I have show if it's important which side goes to the flywheel. My luck says I'll do it wrong..so can anyone help?
thanks
Jay

Jay, this is what I found in my manual. "longer hub and springs of
the lined disc facing toward rear."

Must have been different versions of the clutch disc between factory and aftermarket. Probably had revisions along the way.

The longer part of the hub and the spring cage (if it's a spring loaded disc) will go to the pressure plate side or towards the rear of the tractor. Rick

Jay, I hope it is correct. Most are not . Measure your finger height when installed on flywheel. If not correct thickness clutch is used with pressure plate machined correct ,your clutch will fail. HTH Tracy Martin

Maybe I'm miss understanding your comment but I just did a clutch job on a D17....the book gives you the spec for the finger height and you adjust them accordingly.
