Has anyone powder coated exhaust manifolds? I was thinking about doing it for my WD45. It is about $250 and I could have it done in a flat black. it would be nice to stop the rust if possible. Was the manifold painted orange from the factory?

I just spray mine with high heat Tremclad paint. A few coats of that does a nice job and has held up well so far.

The local paint people painted my 45D manifold with a high temp paint as a demo N/C, it can't cost to much. That was 4 years ago, threw many tractor pulls , plowing, and screwing around, it looks as good as when they painted it. I would not trust powder coat under those high tempertures. Harold

There are different temps of powder coat, we NAVY use both high and low temp powder coat, depending if I'm coating aluminum or steel.

Hot rodders have coated headers for years. You see it more and more as the price has really fallen. Used to be it was cheaper to by new headers then have them coated. Be sure they coat the inside as well.

I have just used this along with the high temp primer. No history yet as it's still off the tractor.

A couple of things I have learned about painting manifolds:
1) Must be CLEAN with no rust.....if there is rust on the manifold and you lay down 27 coats of black maniold paint, the rust WILL bleed through the 27 coats
2) Once the manifold is blasted clean, put it one the wood stove FIRST and get it hot, then apply one coat and put it back on the stove. wait 30 minutes or so and repeat. let it sit on the stove overnight to bake the finish on. I have done this on the last 3 manifolds I have done and it works like a champ
