I have a friend going to look at a 34 WC today and he is curious what he needs to look at to make sure it is correct?  Please let me know your thoughts.

No Allis Chalmers stamped on top front of radiator. 4 spoke steering wheel. My brother has one I'd need to take a look at it. There are small differences in the shift cover if I remember right.

Don't the early WCs have the bigger mag also?

No name stamped in radiator.
"U" type 4-spoke steering wheel. ( A 3-flat spoke still looks good on it)
Base mounted magneto.
Cast iron oil pan.
Starting crank is not removable.
4 bolts on top of transmission housing.
Hinged gas cap on early models.
A straight sided hood, no curves toward the radiator.
If your luckey, 17in round spoke front wheels.
I might have forgotten something.
Good luck!

steelwheelAcjim pretty much covered it.  I dont know if all the 34's had the 4 spoke steering wheel,  mine does not, and many I have seen do not, so it may have been on the early 34's.  Gas cap is also larger on ones without flip top.  Check wheels to see if there is any evidence of green paint.  Mine is serial #1184 and originally had green wheels.  There are reports of some others like this.

Yes Bill oh is correct on canister type oil filter.  Some early 35 tractors had it as well, but 99% of them have been changed over.  There should be 2 extra studs with nuts on them behind the oil filter to determine if it has the original engine, or at least side plate for that matter.

Mine has the starter tank on the right side of the hood, even though the carb is on the left.  Everything else that was listed previously looks right.

Some '34 starter tanks were on the left, some on the right depending on whether the Waukesha or Allis motor was used. Steering wheel is steel with 7/8" shaft. My #629 has the Allis motor. I'm not certain but think the 19 or so '33s all used the Waukesha so had the rail cutout. The mag is a Bendix-Scintilla U-3191 basemount. I had the value of the tractor in these two pieces.

I should have also said that after 80 years, very few are "correct".

Some had the Allis motor with the starter tank on the right rear of the hood. When Allis got their engine ready to use, they evidently had extra hoods already made up for the Waukesha engine and used them up.

There were no Waukesha engines in 34, but they did still use some hoods with the starter tank on the right side.

Hood and radiator line on the side should look like this.  Post some pictures when you get her.

Thanks
