I believe it was more than just the head. Looks like the whole upper part of the engine came off. I don't think there was anything left but the crank and the oil pan.

Take a close look toward the end, those are the pistons laying on the frame still attached to the crank. Kinda answers the question, how big does the explosion have to be to split an engine block in half.

You loose spark, cyls  fill with fuel, the rest is hydraulics.
