I have a customer that wants to buy a combine, he wants something with 16' header. I have never been in field with R42 or R52, which would be better in wheat and soybeans? Probally never pick corn.

I would go with the R-52, little bigger for about the same price, much easier to find 52 than a 42. Basically the same machine but the 52 will have a little more capacity.

Actually, an older L2 or L3's capacity with a 16' header would be better suited, especially since the walkers gives a better bale straw if that is needed. But, maybe a newer machine is a better direction for parts availability for customer & dealer? A newer rotor machine with only a 16' header would be moving really fast to optimize its capacity? Not sure that is always possible in soybeans?
You might also try the following web-link for combine talk forums.
This link is a directory page in which you can pick your combine brand forums. I used to be on it often, except about 3-5 years ago its registration filled to the point that it did not allow new people. So, my visits are minimal now. But, it is still a great site for combine information. |

Depending in what he want to spend. If I were just doing wheat and beans, and no corn. The L3 would be just fine ,for less then half the money. Corn is where the rotors shine.

I would agree also, the old conventionals do a beatiful job in soybeans and wheat and have excellent quality straw good for baling. The only thing is the 52 would have a much nicer cab, but the cab on our F2 isn't too bad either, and very quiet surprisingly.
