I have a D-17 hood that I bought for parts a while back.  I started cleaning it up and found a brass tag on it marked AVCO NUMBER 235.  The parts came from a auction close to Coldwater, Ohio.  I wounder if this D-17 could have once been owned by Avco-New Idea?  Any New Idea experts out there that might be able to shed some light on this?
  Thanks,
   Joe

Might have been. New Idea used the 426 in some of their Uni power units.

Seems like I remember seeing brochures for NI equipment hooked to AC tractors.  Didn't someone recently say NI tested machines at a nearby farm with AC tractors.

Most of the AC dealers around this part of the country also sold NI but NI did not own AC. IN later years AGCO did own NI But the way i understand it there is no NEW IDEA any more.

Avco was into a lot more stuff than corn pickers and such. I've worked in a Avco plant that made airplane parts. All of the equipment they owned had the tag you described. It's their asset number.

I'd say for sure the hood came off a tractor owned by Avco at one time. It may or may not have been used in the agriculture division.
