i been working on a set of billet alumnium heads and getting the engine adapted to the clutch can getting the spaceing right etc. also got to make a new starter setup and pump drives off the crank nose as the block needs to get cut off where the original starter is in order to fit in the frame

This may be a dumb question, but when you get to that point is there even a tractor part left on there?

Engine and hoods only, but with the kind of hp they are making in the big classes it's the only way they should be. Greg |

Depending on the class you dont even have to use an AG engine or the same brand as the sheetmetal. Heck, even the "sheetmetal" don't come from a tractor on most pullers anymore ! And I disagree, this is not how it should be. Most of "Tractor Pulling" has turned in to drag racing with big tires ! Edited by Rfdeere - 04 Dec 2011 at 10:40pm |

NTPA is the only one I know of allowing 4wd (still has to be an ag engine) and crossbreeding. I don't agree with either. However running 2500-4000 hp through factory housings is not really safe. Factory chassis are just fine for the Limited Pros on down.

bounce a cast tractor chassis around and see how much it will take or twist some axils comeing off the line and see how bad you want to climb back in. i want to have my fun and i want to see how much power i can find but most importantly i want to put my little boy to bed at night.

OK, But you are not building a "tractor" puller anymore.

In your opinion, not mine. The components are about safety and realiability. At the end of the day, I will still be rooting for the IHs and ACs because of what is making the wheels spin.

Most of he engines in "tractors" like the one above are not really an AC, IH, JD, etc. They are custom machined blocks, crankshafts, pistons, camshafts, etc. None of this stuff is getting pulled out of a junkyard or bought at your local implement dealer.

here is one of the intake and exhaust. i had to make a water manifold to draw water oo at each exhaust port. i cut access holes near the intake ports and filled the head around the intake runners and valve bowls to cut new intake ports in.

Wi50 - is your transmission an Easton or Fuller? It looks like one I have seen in a semi truck.

However I do agree that pulling has developed into tractor dragracing and it's because of the way the drop pan sleds work. Nothing, nothing, nothing and then whamm. Speed is the only thing that wins,,, I am rambling now, sorry I dont have a stick in the fire.

regardless of what anyone says (tractor or not a tractor) it dont matter!!!! cause you are doing what you love to do as safe as you possibly can!!! the way this post started it wasnt asked it this is still considered a tractor or if its right or wrong. simply showing us a hobby or project that someone is proud of doing. and i thank you for posting the pics. not everyone gets to see all that goes into these high horsepower machines.

Wi50 thanks for the pic. I'm envious of you guys that can do that kind of fab work.
As far as the other debate going on here, in Iowa they still have the farm stock, super farm, etc classes for everyone that doesn't want to build a rig like this and who wants to pull a tractor with original parts. Don't they also have those classes elsewhere? |
