Had an eventful day that coulda turned out WAY worse! Girlfriends cousins Dad was taking his 6yr old grandson (her nephew) for a ride on his tractor. They were riding around the field while we were in the yard playing with her new pups. I looked up just in time to see the rear tire hit a round bale, pulling the tire up the bale and flipping the tractor on its side. Neither one was hurt this time but next time may not be so lucky. Every second counts when opperating equipment. It happens way too quickly.

glad they are alright . Back in 1990 a friend of my was driving a tractor and had is 4 year old on his lap. The boy slid off his father's lap and the rear tractor tire ran over him . he didn't make it. thing can happen real fast.

We've all had close calls. Some closer and more serious than others. Yes, it can happen in a heartbeat. Glad the outcome for you was non injurious. :)

Why is there never time to do it right the first time, but always time to go back and fix it?

About 3 weeks ago we had something similar happen. The kids were playing "follow the leader" so my daughter could practice being in a parade before the real thing. They were getting ready to put the tractors away about dark when Andrew rolled the 45 on flat ground in 3rd gear at just over an idle. It happened so fast that by the time he realized it was happening he only had time to jump. He's 20 years old and has been driving tractors since he was 9. He came up to the house and said "I owe you a tractor". I thought he was kidding at first. We went out to survey the damage.
![]() I asked him what happened and he said he wasn't sure. We pulled her back upright and found the cause, the right rear landed on this. ![]() It's easy to see in the daylight and after we had been walking around Knocking the grass down but the night before it wasn't so easy to see. Fortunately Andrew came out with a few scratches and nothing more. The WD45 wasn't to bad either, in fact with a few used parts she went to the tractor show a week later. ![]() The moral is always be careful, cause while it's good to be lucky you can't always depend on it.

When I was growing up ag accidents were so common it seems every family had lost a close family member. Many had also been severely injured and seeing people with missing limbs was common. I remember those incidents when I get frustrated at PTO shaft covers or protective shrouds that are always in the way and I am so often tempted to remove protective devices.

Tractors can be fixed, people, not so easy...glad they are o.k. and good reminder. I got a 8 year old son sitting next to me here (I am an old Dad, I'm a Grampa too, its a long story) and if he got hurt or worse I dont think I'd make it, Trev.

i know its kinda goofy but sometimes i think the tractors that mean the most to you end up keepin you safe. protective shrouds, proper clothing and all that are advised for a reason. the tractor my budy rolled dave's wd45 has always ben my favorite. It also always seems to get me through any tricky turn or job without a scratch. I take care of her she takes care of me. just like how my budy got off without a parted hair when he rolled her.
