Can I put 170 6 bolt hubs on early D17 spindles? Do they use the same bearings, or does it take a different combination of cones and races?

If memory serves you cant use the later 6 bolt hubs on an earlier tractor that had 5 bolt hubs.

The inner bearing and race are larger on the 6 bolt hub but the outers are the same.
I cannot tell you offhand whether or not the inner spindle diameter is the same.

Doesn't someone have access to 'Allis Dealer Parts' books to
compare P/N for spindles, hubs, and brgs. ? Gary

I had a late 6 bolt spindle on my 17. Changed it over to match the other 5 bolt. Had to measure spindle and race then order the right cones and cups to fit it. Go to a good bearing supply place they should be able to match them up.

OK Gary, you shamed me into it! LOL
The front spindle assembly (dual front wheels) for all the D-17s has the same part number.
But........The Series 42001 and up tractors use a "spacer, bearing" along with this
dual wheel spindle ass'y.
The manual says "use 237725 & 237726". Why 2 numbers, I can't guess!
I can only assume this spacer is to compensate for the larger inner bearing?
The wide front tractor spindles have different part numbers for the later tractor.
Can we assume the later WF spindle has a larger dia. for the inside bearing race?
The A-C part numbers for the bearings are:
Inner, for 5 bolt hubs: Cone: 0222214-9 (Timken #15250)
Cup: 0209987-7 (Timken #15118)
Inner, for 6 bolt hubs: Cone: 0209899-4
Cup: 0235089-0
Outer, For 5 & 6 bolt hubs: Cone: 0209926-5 (Timken #2720)
Cup: 0209983-6 (Timken #2776)
I know the Timken #s on only the bearing I have had to replace myself.
Now, I ain't no typist, so you know this wasn't easy! LOL
I'm pretty sure I got all the numbers correct, tho.
