I am looking at several gleaner f and f2 combines. most of which don't have corn heads that I will need. I don't see any corn heads for sale by themself and the combines that have corn heads won't sell them separate. How hard is it to find a corn head for an f? THe ones on tractor house are as much or more than the combines I am looking at. I will need a wide row head to start with but would like to switch to 30 inch rows soon. I saw a post some where that somebody narrowed a wide head to 30 inch rows anybody else saw or done this?

You should be able to find a wide row head pretty easy and cheap.  When we bought our F2 we got a 4-36 black head, that had been narrowed to 4-30 which really worked well, and did not have the extra shafts that the standard 4-30's had.  Unfortunately we lost that head along with the 315 flex head to a shed fire.  We luckily found a black 4-30 not too far from home, and also bought the combine with it for a parts machine.  I think most gleaner dealers have a lot of old heads around and you should be able to find a 4-30 when ready to switch, but you may have to pay pretty good for it.  You may also just want to narrow down your current head.  Good luck  You will love an F2, small and simple, but still big enough to get something done in a day.

Dad and I have an orange head and a black head for sale in the Jeff City area. Both 30" rows.

Asking $1500 for the orange, it's in good shape and looks pretty good but seen a lot of corn.

The black is one of the nicest you will find.  we bought it from the original owner and a neighbor.  They never raised much corn so i know it hasn't been over many acres and it looks it.  the sprockets don't show any wear at all and all the guards are in place.  We're asking $3500 for it.

Give me a call if interested

Thanks guys. So they are out there. Unfortunately most of them are too far away or cost more than we have to spend right now. I just have to work some more side jobs and pick one up when I get the money.
