I just had the rear main seal for the engine replaced on my D17, and it is now leaking worse than it did before. When the engine is running it drips oil steady. Is there anything that I can do to fix it. The engine is a 226ci gas. Thanks any help is appreciated. Steve

#1. Improper installation of the seal itself. #2. Improper installation of the oil pan gasket. #3. Rear camshaft plug leaking #4. Incorrect seal (refer back to #1.) Yes, it is certainly repairable and won't leak if done correctly with correct parts.

Years ago ,I had to split my D-17 3 times because of rear main leaking. If I remember right,on 3rd. try,I discovered the retainer for top half of seal had holes that were larger than the bolts so the seal could be crammed down against crankshaft nice and snug and then tightened. That was about 20 years ago and it's now starting to leak just a little. But on the bright side,it is a fairly easy tractor to split.

Did you glue the seals in? Did you put the F gaskets in? Did you use any sealer between top seal holder and block? Did you oil the seals befor puttong it togather? Hope the seals were not too long and you cut them off. MACK
