8070 input shaft seal

   Had to replace mine a few months back.Know a man that just replaced his and 80 hrs later he says started leaking again.Both tractors are PS.I miked my input shat to check for the possibility of any wear and couldn't find any.Used Agco seal because it was double lipped and I noticed a small seepage on mine a few months later.Was this a chronic problem with these tractors? Was this a weak point in there design?

	I would guess you are talking about trans. input seal, right? Did you replace the bushing in flywheel? The splines on shaft get worn sharp causing small cuts in the seal. Use a thin piece of plastic to go on inside of seal. Slide it on with seal then pull plastic out. An old fish card works good. MACK

	Mack Yes trans input seal.No didn't replace bushing in the clutch.Seemed tight but I can understand just a small movement could create a problem.Was extra careful installing the seal and it didn't leak until put 30 hrs of hard pulling with a scraper.WHAT do think? Thanks. Very aggravating to have to split the tractor on a $15 seal.

	Check the roller ball bearing behind the seal. Wouldnt take much play in it to compromise the sealing capabilities of that seal. Like Mack said also check the pilot bearing. Also be sure the torque limiter disc is centered. a off center disc could cause your input shaft to vibrate or run slightly off center.Since nothing releases that disc once the bellville washer bolts are tightened thats where it will run at.I have changed those input shaft bearings without disassembling the transmission before, not a super easy task but doable with a bit of patience and a slide hammer.
