Hello, I have a WD-45 with a 6 volt generator and distributor. I have rewired the tractor with an original type harness. The generator checked good for voltage output. My problem is the original type High/low charge light switches i install are getting smoked. I have an original shop manual with the wiring diagram that I used for reference. What am I missing. Almost at my wits end because the 6 volt system is dirt simple. Just don"t know what else to do besides 12 volt it. Any help or ideas is always appreciated. Thanks, Jon B. Williams, Clarksville AR

First, make sure you don't have anything hot touching the inside of the box. It gets pretty busy in there with all the wires. Second, make sure the switch is grounded. Clean off any paint or rust inside the box where the switch mounts. Third, is the switch the round Delco version and is tough to pull out through its positions? If it is, the selector disc inside is warped and is grounding itself inside. Fourth, if its an indak switch (the square OEM backup replacement for the Delco round switch) throw it away, and put the round Delco with fuse tower in its place. We have an rebuilt/exchange program on the three pos. switches. $48. bucks w/o rod n' knob, $55. w/rod n' knob.+ the ride. Drop us a line if interested... Steve@B&B |

Is the generator polarized properly? Don't know if that would smoke the switch, but something will let the smoke out if the genny isn't polarized right.
