I put it in the ground at light speed with the four row planter and had some good help from my buddy Rick Corder and my girl friend.

Don - my old 4 row planter looks good - did it work well? You are also giving my old SC field cultivator a workout too. And I see you did fix the front axle pivot on the D17 based on the new paint on the front casting. I take it that worked out too.
I figured you guys were planting on Saturday. I took the Series IV out to my6 acre south hilltop with the 13 foot 1200 Field Cultivator and smoothed up my poor ridged discing job from the weekend before. The D17 pulled it great in high 2nd about 98% of the time. Had to shift down in a couple of spots. Even pulled through the famous mud hole and didn't get stuck! So that engine has another hour & half of heavy lug time to break it in. I'll have to post pic sometime with that. Looks like you guys had a great time. I assume Rick found the fertilizer tubes and brought them over. I want some more close-up pics of the re-built planter. Mike |

I don't know about Don and his girl friend, but I had a blast of a time! You know...you can actually get a lot of work done AND a lot of thinking time in,PLUS you can have fun too...all at the same time! LMAO! I know I did and to me it was well worth the drive. Also,I always enjoy talking to Don's dad. He is as sharp as a tack at 87 years old (I think) and has a lot of knowledge to pass on,so treasure the precious moments while you can,Don,ol' buddy. Rick

Nice work guys! I don't think I have seen pictures of a working 4 row SC planter, until now! Only downside that I can see compared to the 2 row SC planter, is that its less tractor seat time! lol

Just thought an update on the corn planting; it's sticking it's head out of the ground today,
five days and looking for rain now. lol
Rick you looked like you where having a ball on the old 45 turning ground up, thanks again for all your help. I was all done planting and sitting at the house by 6:30 PM
Mike I will post some shots of the four row it's still on the tractor all cleaned up and ready for next year, yes Rick brought the tunes with him. Thanks. Edited by Don(MO) - 17 May 2012 at 7:35pm |
