I couldn't fine my other thread,,, so here goes,,,,,,, I was piddlin on the Massey Ferguson engine getting some measurements to machine a "sleeve pulling thingie when I noticed something odd on #4 rod journal on the crankshaft. I had went ahead and pulled the crankshaft to get better access to the #4 sleeve. I look closer and,,,,and,,,the friggin oil hole in the shaft looked to be plugged up,,,I tried to poke the stuff out and it was packed in tight,,,!!! I made me a little cotkscrew and fished out a lot of what looked like perforated pieces of plastic,,I mean all the way thru the oil journal to where it comes out at the rear camshaft bearing register,,,,,WTF,,,??? I'm told this model of Continental engine uses an oil filter inside the oil pan and this looks to be the same material as those filters, I went ahead and pulled the camshaft and blew out ALL the oil galleys,,(this was the only'ist one that was plugged) and then blew everything out again for good measure,,,,, There,,,,I feel much better now,,,,,,, ![]() ![]() waiting on some phone calls bout some parts needed and I be ready to start assemblin See what ya'll think it looks like,,,,, Edited by desertjoe - 16 May 2019 at 8:59pm |

This reminds me of when I found a piece of felt crammed in the back of the crank shaft on my B. Lol
Going by the pics I don’t think the stuff in Joe’s crankshaft is supposed to be there. |

![]() Well,,Thad,,,you prolly got to see some of my Dad's handi work,,,,on mechanikin, ![]() I remember he used to have a 36 chevy that had a bad rod journal and every so often he had to open the oil pan and get a piece of "special" leather that he would shave a sliver off with a razor just the size of the rod cap,,,,slip it under the cap,,,bolt it down and it would go for a few more weeks-months,,,,,,,, ![]() I also remember when we lived in the mountains west of here,,there was this very steep hill called Denny Hill, you had to climb to get to the small village we lived in, Unpaved, rocky, and muddy when it rained,,bout every week,,,,, ![]() ![]() ![]() He turns the car around and drives the car all the up IN REVERSE,,,!!! Who Knew,,??, ![]() ![]() There is another story bout thet old Chevy for another day,,,,,

That felt seal was supposed to be there on my B. Packing the new one in was a pita. I saw beer can shims on the rod caps on my Colorado Di4. It ran that way for several years before I tore it down.

Hey Shameless that looks like the stuff I blow out of my nose each morning. Sorry Joe. By the way Joe I did some welding with nickel 55 this evening, and while pretty hard I believe it can be drilled and tapped. Find out about that tomorrow. Plus it flows better than the nickel 95. Leon
