I just put final drive seals in my dozer, put them all together, moved it a few times with the tracks off, finally put the track frames and tracks on and moved it around today and the left one started leaking. Any experience? Should I run it and see if it seals or take it apart and see what is up? They go in easy so I can't imagine what went wrong. Glued them in with the proper glue and had resistance on the seal.

I assume it is the inner seal. I think the steel seal slipped off the drive pins in the spring assembly. I put gear oil between the steel seals during assembly. If I am correct the situation will get worse if you don't fix it now. My best guess Good luck

I did oil the steels during assembly. it is the inner seal, naturally I have to remove the track and track frame to get to the sprocket. I figured I better get it now before I go any further in assembly but was hoping for the best. I know they would leak occasionally and then stop, usually due to temperature change. not happy about it that is for sure as I need the dozer. thanks for your reply.

I had the same happen to the input seal on the transmission - problem is now the yoke seems to be stuck on splines and so far have not been able to remove the yoke -
Need to check one rear sprocket seal also as it started weeping last fall . Guess after 40 years of owning the machine i need to keep up on things better - still the same rear seals as when i bought the machine - just welded on sprocket rings when I put the new track on .

On a HD5B I had rather than remove the truck frame - I cut the end of the frame that holds the outboard bearing - I made a jig to hold that section in line before torching it off - then when going back together after replacing sprocket, bearings, and seal I installed the jig and welded cut off section back in place .
