D17 series one lift arm problems. Please help

   Hello, working on a family members d17 series 1 and looking for some knowledge. Any time the engine is running the lift arms raise like there's pressure going to them regardless of where the controll lever is set at. The linkage for the traction booster is unhooked and I made sure the rod at the bottom of the tractor is not hanging up and causing troubles. If I shut the tractor off the lift arms will drop but will not while tractor is running. The hydraulic lever will make them raise faster when moved but when it's at the lower setting they still creep up. Wondering if I have a valve leaking by or something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

	The Traction Booster rod under the belly MUST BE HOOKED UP and adjust the nuts FORWARD as far as they can go for now. Traction Booster lever must be down/horizontal.

	I forgot to mention traction booster has been unhooked as long as he's owned the tractor but the lift arm problem started recently and has progressively gotten worse.

	Don't argue. Hook it back up and adjust the nuts FORWARD and then report back if it doesn't work. T.B. lever must be DOWN/HORIZONTAL.

	I got everything hooked up and adjusted the nuts on the t.b. forward. No longer raises all the time but the raise/lower is a bit funky. Move the lever to lift and it does nothing till about half way up the travel of the lever then starts raising but will continue to raise until the arms are raised to the top limit. If I move the lever down just one notch from that spot it will lower the lift arms all the way. Basically it seems like it's all or nothing in the travel of one notch on the hydraulic lever and you cannot get the lift arms to stay in any position except for all the way up or all the way down. Thank your for your help on this.

	The short Traction Booster lever (with notches) must remain fully down (horizontal) at ALL TIMES unless you are hooked to a mounted plow or disc. The long LIFT/LOWER lever has three positions: All the way up is RAISE. All the way DOWN (below horizontal) is LOWER. In a pretty large area in the middle is HOLD. If the LIFT/LOWER lever raises and lowers but doesn't hold, you need to first be checking your hydraulic fluid level (right side under fuel tank) and the transmission oil level (to the right of the gearshift). Oil might be transferring between the hyd into the transmission. This means a leaking hyd hose and/or seals on the lift arm cylinder inside the rear end. If the oil levels remain correct, the hold valve on the hydraulic pump has a problem. The pump drops down out of the belly. Proper diagnosis must be done to arrive at a proper fix.
