    Posted: 23 Jun 2025 at 9:30am
during my rebuild, I must have overlooked the front crankshaft seal surface is deeply grooved.  I am looking for a speedi sleeve for it, still need to measure it to be sure, but thought I would post here if anyone knows a part number off hand.  I believe the front seal is a rope type, like the 2 piece rear main, but havent confirmed what is in my Reliance gasket kit, maybe its a rubber seal, regardless the seal surface will not seal given the deep groove in it.  thanks everyone!

Don't remember the part no. but the speedy sleeve is a good idea. Just a regular oil seal in the timing cover.

correct, the front seal is a lip seal with a felt ring further forward so it extends quite a bit from the cover.  I found SKF 99150 but its install depth is not deep enough with the provided install sleeve(only up to about an inch, based on measuring I need to move it about 2.75" onto the shaft), but I think I could move it further down the shaft to get it into position.

You can use a piece of exhaust tubing or pipe to install a Speedi-sleeve deeper on a shaft, just takes a bit of searching at times to find something with the right ID to use in place of the supplied driver.
