So I've got a wd that I'm parting out. I've got a good running engine in it. Dad has a wd45 that the motor is junk in. So my thoughts were to swap motors. It will fit I know but what can I do to a wd motor to pep up the power some without totally reinventing the wheel so to speak

Use the manifold, carburetor and air cleaner from the WD-45. That's about it.

Not much unless you're going to put a 45 crank in it. At that point, you might as well rebuild the 45 motor.

What's different about the air cleaners?
The mechanic always wins.

I just did a full valve train job on a old 9N Ford and while I was in there I did a quick intake and exhaust port cleanup and match. Basic deburring and radius work plus opening up and matching the ports to the gaskets. Same with the manifold intake runners and face.

Even on a old low RPM low compression tractor getting more air through the system with less restriction helps pick some power and efficiency up and it's largely  nothing but a time expenditure to do a bit of port cleanup work.

When you only have around 22 HP to work with (in your case ~30?) adding another 1 - 3 is still a measurable percentage increase! Wink

If you can find a set of them a set of M&W pistons will wake it up a lot. Our WD is stock other then the M&Ws and runs 43-45HP on most show dynos.

If the crank is good on the 45, bolt it in with the flat top WD pistons. That will wake it up Wink

If you use the 45 crank and the flat top pistons, use spark plugs for a Leroi D226 engine, or the pistons will hit the spark plugs.
