rats ate the wiring, and I would like to know where the engine tach sending unit is located. My f or f2 has the chevy engine. thanks

There is no sending unit, the engine tach runs off the alternator.  There is a black wire that plugs into the back of the alternator and runs up to the tach selector switch in the cab.

after you re-wire it....and it's time to put away for winter, take that panel back off and leave it off all thru storage, they won't chew there again cuz it'll be out in the open

The sending unit for the engine tach on my K2 w/Chevy engine is on the bell housing of the engine. Yours should be the same.

Do you have the service manual?   I have a service manual for a K that shows the wiring diagram for the tachometer circuit.  I think the F is the same.  

Coming off the tachometer selector switch you should have

-black wire to the alternator
-black/white wire to the ground speed pickup
-black/blue wire to the cylinder speed pickup
-black/green wire to the fan speed pickup. 
-yellow wire to the tachometer
