Can any of you guys tell me if there is a way to drain the gear oil for the steering gear out of the front bolster on a WD?
I have the cover off the top there is a little oil left not quiet touching the worm gear so I'm sure the seals are gone.
I can see some milk shake under what oil there is I would like to get out but I don't see a drain plug but I have a loader on my WD so the loader bracket covers part of the bottom so I may not see a drain plug.
The gear still looks good I want to keep it that way so I am going to take some of your suggestions and put some corn head grease in there if I get it cleaned out.
   Any info is appreciated.

No drain plug. On a wide front you take the bolts out that hold the steering gear in the bottom. Just use a suction gun and suck the icky oil out. I have put pourable grease in both my C and CA. They both leak and stopped leaking when I put it in. I got mine from the local John Deere shop. You can't use in in anything that has hypo id gears .

I have been wanting to put new oil in my recently added wide front end also. It calls for sae250 oil in the manual, i think thats obsolete. What do most of yhe old veteran AC guys use? Any other oils besides pourable grease?   I would agree with the other post about using suction to remove the old sticky oil. I would try suctioning it out of the fill hole as opposed to the steering worm gear opening. There was a thin gasket seal along with a shim in place. If you could avoid breaking the gasket seal, probably will never leak imo.

I needed to find a replacement for the steering box 250 weight gear oil needed for my 1954 WD45 wide front end. I used Mobilux EP 023 grease, it is a NGIL 000 grade special-duty semi-fluid  grease and it pours in to a gear box.

Don't use corn head grease. It only works because you can actually pressurize the corn head gear box with the grease gun and fill every bit of it. You can't do that with the steering box and you'll end up with the grease moving away from the gear and not lubing. Maybe not be a big deal there since it doesn't move much, but saw it ruin gears in another application once.
