On the 248 Perkins, you can see one frost plug hole open here.  That is where the original block heater was - it is in behind the starter when everything is together.  I took mine out since it was leaking and the tractor does not get used in the winter.

Our 175 with the 4.248 engine had the external style coolant circulation heater. Mounted on RH frame rail with a hose to water pump one way and rear coolant drain plug of engine block the other way. Took it off cause it started leaking and we don't need it anyway.
